UBCO OT / PT Feasibility Study

  • Client
UBC Properties Trust / UBC Okanagan
  • Location
    Kelowna, BC
  • Completion
    2023

Overview

Thinkspace was engaged by UBC Properties Trust to assess the feasibility of designing a new facility for the Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physical Therapy (PT) programs, currently located at UBC Vancouver, Surrey, and Prince George.

Planned to expand to UBC Okanagan (UBCO) by 2026, the new site will be adjacent to the Reichwald Health Science Centre.

The design will fit within the campus, avoiding rezoning issues, and will frame the campus entry, promoting accessibility and collaboration.

It will maximize existing infrastructure to minimize costs, avoid disrupting academic areas, and maintain campus connections.

The building will activate the Discovery Ave Greenway and establish a health science precinct with potential pedestrian zones.

The proposed facility will be organized across three floors and an atrium: the ground floor will house publicly accessible programs, research labs, and student spaces; the second and third floors will host OT and PT labs, breakout rooms, and offices.
