Overview
The University of Northern BC Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) lab is a specialized facility designed to support advanced practice nursing education and clinical skills development. This particular lab contains eight patient beds, five exam tables, one med prep cart, a patient lift, classroom space for 24 students, and two acute care rooms.
The lab mimics a real-world clinical setting, ensuring a seamless transition from training to practice. The space typically includes exam rooms equipped with diagnostic tools like otoscopes, blood pressure monitors, and exam tables, mirroring primary care environments.
Central to the lab is a simulation area, featuring high-fidelity manikins and virtual patient technology, enabling learners to practice assessments, diagnostics, and interventions. A debriefing room, equipped with audiovisual capabilities, facilitates post-simulation discussions and reflective learning.
The layout emphasizes accessibility and functionality, with modular spaces for group learning, private study, and skills stations. Additional features may include a central nursing station, storage for medical supplies, and technology hubs for electronic health record (EHR) training.
