The mammography suite renovation at Kelowna General Hospital consisted of a complete overhaul of the existing mammography room and the replacement of an outdated analog mammography machine with a new digital acquisition workstation and operator’s console. The existing suite was expanded to include non-utilized adjacent areas, and the overall space was reimagined to enhance care provider workflow and patient comfort.
Special importance was placed on creating a soft and calming space that is intriguingly unique and atypical of standard hospital rooms. This was achieved through the careful and thoughtful selection of materials and colours, as well as the creation of an artistic and symbolistic suspended ceiling element.
The renovation addresses Canadian Health Care Facility standards, and included mechanical and electrical upgrades to bring this space up to compliance with latest requirements. In addition to the renovated mammography room, a new radiologists’ office and nurse work area was also designed.
