Overview
The intent of JIBC’s Long Range Facilities Plan was to utilize the core planning recommendations to manage the most optimum application of facilities to support JIBC’s mission over a planning horizon of 25 years.
All six campuses were part of this planning process, and involved understanding JIBC’s history, programs, vision, and the physical structure of each campus: New Westminster (major administrative hub), Chilliwack, Maple Ridge (outdoor tactical training – fire/police), Pitt Meadows (driving track), Okanagan, and Victoria.
Further exploration was done on all campuses with a focus on the New Westminster, Chilliwack, and Maple Ridge.
The Maple Ridge campus is a secluded location northeast of the core city. Nestled in a heavily forested area, the campus is primarily dedicated to firefighting training and a tactical training centre for other programs. The site is configured to allow for flexibility and a great deal of durability. The site is split into two distinct areas:
- Academic: admin/classroom building, Future Proposed Housing,
- Tactical Training Grounds: props for training (equipment), support buildings – change rooms/laundry, fitness trailer, maintenance; water treatment plant
