Thinkspace designed and managed a comprehensive upgrade to the Lake Country wastewater treatment plant. As part of an overall upgrade to the existing wastewater treatment facility, Thinkspace also designed a 300 m2 control and operations building and space to accommodate new electrical, process, and mechanical systems.
The upgrade to the plant included an expansion of the existing process building, a new bioreactor, extensive work to utilities and site plus process work on clarifiers, the existing bioreactor, new turbo blowers, new centrifuge, sludge pumps and grinder pump, replacement of existing polymer system, miscellaneous pumps and mixers, septage receiving upgrades, and 470 m of encased and partially-insulated HDPE potable water to all designated sites.
The control and operations building is the combination of an administrative and control centre, two-bay workshop and chemical storage area. The new two-storey construction of the administration includes change rooms, meeting rooms, offices, a lab and a lunchroom. Use of mass timber on the interior, accompanied by glass, concrete, steel and composite panels on the exterior give the building a sleek industrial and modern appearance. The building’s orientation allows for views over the entire plant from inside and facilitates future growth of the total plant.
