Belmont Secondary School
Client:
School District No. 62 (Sooke)
Location:
Langford, BC
Overview:
The new school presents a prominent, yet human scaled presence within an established neighborhood in Langford, Victoria B.C.
For site efficiency, a three-story building was proposed with principal learning spaces or “Learning Communities” organized along a three-story atrium. This inter-connected space facilitates easy orientation to all levels. The three story atrium which increases in width and length from east to west, culminates at the north-south entry cross-roads as a two story multi-purpose space.
The library-media tech centre is located at this cross-roads on the second level. The library symbolically, and in fact, is located at the centre of the school occupying pride of place on the interior and exterior of the building. The library is for more purposeful focused study while the forecourt beside the student store will be the more casual and social ante-room to the library.
