The Hugh Boyd Secondary School project was a seismic upgrade of an existing school. Work involved remedying the seismic and liquefaction deficiency of blocks 2 and 3 of the existing building, which was built in the late 1950s, and the replacement of the tech ed wing (block 4) of the school.

Block 2 (the classroom section) work consisted of foundation and tie beam improvements, and upgrading the roof diaphragm; a new entryway to this area of the school was also part of the work. Block 3 (the gym) work focused on foundation improvements and tie beams, as well.

Block 4 was completely demolished and a new exterior envelope was added to the exposed end of the building. The completely revamped Tech Ed wing has greatly enhanced the learning environment, in compliance with the new Applied Design, Skills and Technologies (ADST) guidelines of the BC Ministry of Education. It now includes a woodwork shop that incorporates mass timber beams into the structure, a maker lab, and a computer science lab.
