New Associate Announcement – Kirsti Mathiasen
December 3, 2025
We are very pleased to announce that Kirsti Mathiasen, Senior Technologist (Dip.T., B. Arch. Sci.) has been made an Associate with Thinkspace. Kirsti joined Thinkspace as a full-time employee more than a decade ago, and has made significant contributions to the practice in that time.
Henk Kampman, Principal at Thinkspace, was highly complimentary about Kirsti’s growth during her time at Thinkspace. “For me, Kirsti is a prime example of a talented home-groomed staff member who took the opportunity to rise up through the ranks,” said Henk.
“I have been here myself for about 15 years, and I have seen Kirsti grow as a person, as a technologist and more recently as an intern architect and emerging leader. I am really excited to see how she developed herself into the well-rounded leader she is now. Kirsti is honest, doesn’t jump to conclusions and is thoughtful and considerate. She is also a do-er who brings people together and gets things done.”
Kirsti has worked on a wide variety of projects since she started at Thinkspace. She recently completed the Prince Rupert Emergency Department Renovation, and she has been instrumental in both delivering the Rothewood Garden City project and creating design guidelines for the entire Rothewood childcare franchise. Other projects she has worked on include the Kwantlen Polytechnic University acupuncture lab, U of Alberta chemistry labs, Hugh Boyd Secondary and Ferris Elementary seismic upgrades, the Alpha Secondary upgrade and addition, and SĆIȺNEW̱ SṮEȽIṮḴEȽ Elementary School.
Kirsti had the following to say about becoming an Associate: “Being asked to become an Associate at Thinkspace is an honour to me because it means that the work I’m doing has an impact within the practice and the industry. I appreciate being trusted with providing meaningful mentorship and guidance to others here at Thinkspace because one of my passions is to help others grow and succeed in their careers. I also hope to help elevate our technical prowess in the office, whether than be through improving efficiencies, learning new skills, or teaching others.
She went on to note, “My interests lie in creating spaces that promote learning, healing, and development, so naturally the projects that I feel I bring the most specialty to are childcare facilities, schools, and healthcare. I hope that by becoming an Associate at Thinkspace, I can continue to promote and grow these interests within the practice and help our team continue to grow and develop into experts. Learning is continuous, and I hope to encourage that mindset at Thinkspace. I am very excited about the opportunity, and I am looking forward to what the next 10 years hold for Thinkspace.”
Kirsti is based in Thinkspace’s Surrey studio, and is currently working on multiple projects across Western Canada.
Congratulations, Kirsti, on this well-deserved recognition!
