July 13, 2026
We are very pleased to announce that Jak New, Senior Technologist, Architectural Technologist AIBC, CCCA has been made an Associate with Thinkspace. Jak joined Thinkspace in late 2022 and has made several significant contributions to the practice since then.
Allan Francis, Principal, was highly complementary about Jak’s continued professional growth at Thinkspace. “Jak’s contributions as a team member and as a leader on important projects across several sectors demonstrate his adaptability to various phases of work and ability to deal with the associated and often overlapping stress factors. From healthcare to education to civic to commercial projects, his calm demeanor grounds client, consultant, and construction teams in collaborative problem solving and decision making. “
“His influence extends well beyond project-related issues to practice-related initiatives as the Technical Committee lead, an L5 group lead, and as the CA go-to guy amongst staff. He is a tremendous resource and is always willing share his experience as learning opportunities.”
Jak’s experience in the architecture industry dates back more than 30 years. After an early grounding in architecture, he completed the BCIT Building Technology program in 1998. He worked at a number of major design practices following that, including Cannon Design and DIALOG, before moving over to Thinkspace.
Since joining Thinkspace, Jak has helped deliver several major projects, most notably Holy Cross Regional High School, the joint AutoCanada GM / Volkswagen dealerships, the University of the Fraser Valley Dining Hall, and the Prince Rupert Emergency Department renovation.
When asked what it meant to be made an associate, Jak had this to say: “Becoming an Associate at Thinkspace is a meaningful milestone in my career. I’m grateful for the trust and confidence the Thinkspace leadership team has placed in me, and I see this as recognition of the incredible people I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside. It motivates me to continue learning, contributing, and supporting the success of our team.
He went on to note, “I’m excited to continue growing alongside Thinkspace by supporting our people, improving how we work together, and always looking for ways to make our projects and processes even better. I believe those small improvements add up to stronger teams, better client experiences, and lasting success.”
Jak is based in Thinkspace’s Surrey studio and is currently working on projects across Western Canada, including the Kwantlen Park Secondary School addition, the Mission Senior Secondary School, and Village Church.
Congratulations, Jak, on this well-deserved recognition and May the Force be with you!
