Daniel Calibuso

Daniel graduated with a degree in Architectural Science from BCIT, where he gained an appreciation for the technical and design challenges of architecture. Since 2019, Daniel has lent his skills to a very broad range of projects here at Thinkspace.

Daniel is particularly interested in the collaborative element of architecture. He admires projects that respond thoughtfully to the complexities of context, design, and construction.

Daniel is involved in his local church as the Music Ministry Director, and he loves to sing, and play guitar with the band. He enjoys staying active as well, hiking and relaxing in the many parks of BC.

Four questions with…

What is your favourite pastime?
Playing with my band at church! When I’m not in the office, I’m usually singing, playing guitar, or rehearsing a music set with the band for Sunday service.

What destination is on your travel bucket list?
The Philippines! I was too young to remember the last time I was there, so I’d love to go back and reconnect with family, and explore the beautiful sites the country has to offer.

What’s your favourite Thinkspace project (to date)?
The Kelowna Parklet! Every year the city of Kelowna sections off Bernard Street for pedestrian activities and lines the streets with small pavilion-like structures for people to interact with. In 2022, the theme was “beat the heat” and we decided to build a modular seating structure with a fabric canopy to emphasize the breeze that flowed through the pavilion. We called it ‘breezeWAVE’.

If you weren’t working in architecture, what would you be doing?
Something that has an outreach to the un-housed community here in the Lower Mainland. I like the idea of being part of the process that helps someone reclaim control of their lives. Everyday you would have an opportunity to meet all sorts of characters with diverse backgrounds and upbringings.
