Okanagan Mission Secondary Exterior Upgrades

Client: School District No. 23 (Central Okanagan)
Location: Kelowna, BC
Overview:

Thinkspace was retained by School District No. 23 (Central Okanagan) to provide architectural service for the exterior upgrades, which included the entrance and façade renovation for Okanagan Mission Secondary School.

The new open-concept entrance is welcoming and connects all learning and support spaces. The new makeover of the school’s exterior and entrance was crucial for connecting the new additions from 2013-14 with the original school, from all aspects.

The materials and architectural language were used in accordance with the recent additions from 2013-14, including glulam columns, cross laminated timber as the roof structure, Parklex as the exterior grade wood composite panel, Tectiva fibre cement panels, brick veneer, acrylic stucco, glazed aluminum curtainwall and prefinished metal siding and flashings.

The new main entrance was completed with interior gathering areas, extending the multi-purpose room and bringing natural daylight into the space. The feature Parklex wall emphasizes the main entrance and connects the interior gathering space with the exterior.

The façade upgrade also included extending the parapet height to accommodate the future roof upgrade (insulation and new membrane).
