Maddaugh Road Elementary School
This elementary school is located in the eastern part of Surrey, near the border with Langley. The 525 grades 1 – 7 and 80 kindergarten student nominal capacity for this school addresses existing and future accommodation projections. The school was also approved with a 15% area allowance for a Neighborhood Learning Centre (NLC).
This project is significantly influenced by Mar Jok Elementary School located in West Kelowna, BC. It was modified for the increased proposed capacity, Surrey School District design priorities for educational delivery, and the funded NLC.
The project is designed to achieve provincial government policy priorities, including LEED® NC 2004 Gold equivalent standards and to maximize the use of wood in accordance with the Wood First Act.
Community use spaces are generally located in a separate after-hours use zone, including the gymnasium and stage, multi-purpose room, change rooms, gathering space, and kitchen servery. The NLC area allowance has been expended to provide enhanced gymnasium facilities, a school gathering space, and two additional classrooms – one grouped with the kindergartens for possible use for a Strong Start or similar program, and another located in a lower floor learning community.
