Mills Memorial Hospital
The Mills Memorial Hospital replacement project began with a master program review and refinement to develop an acute care hospital design to replace the hospital, which was built in 1959.
Thinkspace and DGBK Architects, in conjunction with Infrastructure BC and Northern Health Authority (NHA), served as Facility Consultant Advisors through Phase 1 – Business Case, leading the indicative design process and assisting in the development of a functional program.
The business case provided strong evidence for a new facility, an updated program that reflects current trends in healthcare, and a new facility that would attract and retain healthcare professionals. The design supported community growth while recognizing a shifting age and population mix, and increased demand for healthcare services.
The business case was accepted by NHA and the project transitioned to Phase 2 – Design-Build Team Procurement. That phase of the project was successfully completed, and the project entered Phase 3 – Implementation of the Design-Build Agreement mid-way through 2021.
Construction is now underway on the new hospital. Thinkspace continues to lead the facility consultant advisory team, and will provide advice to NHA up to building occupancy. HDR is the Architect of Record for the project, and PCL Construction is the design-build contractor.
