Cranberry Child Care Centre
Client: City of Richmond
Location: Richmond, BC
Overview:
Cranberry Child Care Centre is a 3,400 square foot group childcare facility with outdoor play area and parking lot in the Hamilton area. It is a custom-built modular building on permanent concrete foundation to accommodate 34 infants, toddlers and children up to six-years-old.
There were a number of site challenges, including soil conditions, site servicing, site access and raising the grade to ensure flood construction elevations were met. Graham Hoffart Mathiasen Architects also completed the concept plan in April 2012, which included review by the Advisory Design Panel and successful re-zoning.
A public art piece designed by artists Ron Hart and Michael Fugeta, called Cranberry Critters, is incorporated into sections of the facility’s wooden perimeter fence. The piece replaces a selection of vertical pickets with colourful steel pickets topped with outlines of various animals.
