Announcing Three New Certified Educational Facility Planners
Thinkspace is pleased to announce three team members – Ron Hoffart, Henk Kampman and Umur Olcay – have received the Certified Educational Facility Planner (CEFP) designation, a mark of excellence developed to reflect the knowledge, skills and abilities of a competent educational facility planner. As three of only seven CEFPs in Canada, we congratulate Ron, Henk and Umur on this great achievement. Thinkspace specializes in K-12 and post –secondary educational projects.

Ron is proud of his work on two significant high schools, University Hill Secondary School at UBC and Centennial Secondary School, in Coquitlam, both of which have focused on the transition to 21st Century Learning principles.
Henk Kampman, CEFP

Over the past 25 years Henk has developed experience in Architecture and Community Planning in the Netherlands and Canada. His main areas of expertise include conceptual design, programming, facility planning and project management. Henk recently worked on several educational pre-planning projects in B.C. including the replacement of the Nicola Canford Elementary School in Merritt, where modular units were adapted to allow for 21st Century Learning ideas, focusing on learner engagement, differentiated instruction and collaboration.
Umur Olcay, CEFP, RPP, MCIP/MPIBC
Associate Director Community and Educational Facility Planning
Umur is an experienced educational facility planner with 33 years of experience in local governments and school districts. For the past 14 years Umur has worked as Manager of Facilities and Demographics Planning for Surrey School District where he advanced facility and education planning as part of the project management team for the most rapidly growing and largest school district in BC. He worked closely with the Project Management and Design Team, the Director of Energy Management and Sustainability, and the Superintendent’s Department in developing plans, capital project strategies and approaches for incorporating facility strategies for 21st Century Learning in schools.
The CEFP credential was designed to elevate professional standards, enhance individual performance and identify those in the educational environment industry who demonstrate the knowledge essential to the practice of educational facility planning. The Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI), creator of the CEFP credential, observed that “An individual who has been certified by CEFPI has achieved the highest qualification in our profession. Clients can appoint CEFPs with confidence that they have been examined for competence by our association.”
