Georges P. Vanier Secondary School Seismic Upgrade and Rejuvenation PDR
The Project Definition Report (PDR) provided a combined seismic upgrade and rejuvenation plan for Georges P. Vanier secondary, after a detailed investigation and review of the rejuvenation and seismic upgrading options for the school, which accurately defined project scope, risks, schedules and budgets.
The PDR reviewed options including:
- Option 1 – Life-Safety Seismic Upgrade Only
- Option 2 – Total Replacement
- Option 3 – Phased Retrofit Seismic Upgrade Only
- Option 4 – Life-Safety Seismic Upgrade + Partial Replacement
- Option 5 – Life-Safety Seismic Upgrade + Partial Replacement + Partial Building Rejuvenation
Option 5 was created in order to meet School District 71 (Comox Valley) guiding principles for Georges P. Vanier Secondary School’s rejuvenation. The scope of work for option 4 is expanded in option 5 to address the guiding principles and to address identified architectural, mechanical and electrical improvements to deal with the aging building systems that are at, or near the end of their lifespan. These ageing building systems would have long term replacement and upgrading costs if not rejuvenated through this project.
The consultant team worked closely together to prepare a robust report based on School District No. 71’s chosen Option 5 (Life-Safety Seismic Upgrade + Partial Replacement + Partial Building Rejuvenation).
